Abstract. The authors put forward and substantiate a hypothesis that the stocking of Trapa natans L. in reservoirs with hydraulic engineering structures should educe the disastrous effect of water level fluctuations on fish roe. The article presents the results of experiments in an aquarium on growing water caltrop and observational data with preliminary conclusions about the qualities of the water caltrop, confirming the hypothesis put forward.
